MESSAGE FROM THE FINA PRESIDENT
It is my great pleasure to present you the FINA Men’s Water Polo World League Super Final 2013, which will be played in Chelyabinsk (RUS), from June 11-16, with the participation of the best eight teams of the preliminary rounds of the competition.
The 2013 edition of the World League was marked by the participation of 17 national teams from four continents – Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Montenegro, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Turkey and USA. Moreover, one preliminary tournament was held in Americas and in Asia/Oceania and six rounds of games in Europe, thus demonstrating the universality of this League and the interest of many cities in hosting the games of the competition.
The coexistence of powerhouses in the sport with emerging nations that are fighting hard to develop the sport in their territory reinforces one of the FINA’s goals over the last years: to attract a new and larger public and to ensure a wider TV audience for this spectacular discipline (the oldest team sport in the Olympic programme).
The impact of the water polo tournaments at the 15th FINA World Championships, to be held in Barcelona (ESP), some weeks after this Super Final, will also reinforce the presence of water polo in the screens and help popularise the stars of this thrilling game.
I take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the continuous support and enormous professionalism to the Organisers, National Federations, athletes, coaches and officials participating in the 2013 edition of the FINA Men’s Water Polo World League. I thank also the Water Polo Federation of Russia for the organisation of the Super Final in the city of Chelyabinsk. The assistance of the sponsors, media representatives and spectators is also essential in promoting water polo worldwide.
I wish the participating teams all the luck and the best to win.
Dr. Julio C. Maglione
The Water Polo Federation of Russia is pleased to greet all participants of the FINA Water Polo World League Super Final.
Twice in 2005 and 2009 we had a chance to host the World League Women's Super Final in the city of Kirishi. It is a great honor for us to host here, in the capital of the South Urals Area the best world’s men’s teams. Competitions among the so high ranked men’s teams have not being held in Russia for quite a long time and I hope that the World League Super Final will boost all involved, both players and coaches, to sharpen their skills on the way to the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
I feel sure that for both specialists and spectators it will be interesting to watch the performance of athletes who might well represent our country at the OG-2016.
I hope that this Super-Final will become a real festivity of Water Polo for both players and spectators and let the best of then be the winners.
